Privacy Tips
It doesn’t take much interaction with the internet to realize that privacy can be a HUGE issue. All you have to do is fill out the wrong form once…Many people have made this mistake and are careful to never do it again. To combat that, many companies will place a privacy policy on their website and even a seal or mark showing their commitment to consumer privacy. Wikiepedia define a privacy policy as “a legal document dealing with the information related to customers’ and merchants’ private profiles.”
TDSafe takes customers information seriously and you should too. It is common sense and obvious that visitors who can visibly see a privacy policy listed on a website are more apt to give their information and ultimately more prone to make a purchase to companies that do this; because it offers protection to the consumer and their information.
Customers are not the only one aware of the need for privacy polices. Major advertising partners, such as Google require it. To advertise on Google, you must state clearly not just how you collect information, but what you do with it.
That being said, here are some things to think about as you are developing your privacy policy:
• What information you are gathering, why you are gathering it and how will it be used.
• Who will have access to this information?
• How long it will be used (kept)?
• Are you committed to a site and server?
• Will this information ever be given to anyone else (third parties)? If so who they are they and what commitment will you have that the information be secure?
• Do you us cookies or other bugs (on the user’s computer)?
• Tell them that you are protecting them in writing, not legal-ese
• We recommend you also have a downloadable (pdf) version of your privacy policy available.
• You may want to look at you competitors sites for ideas.
• You may want to use some basic tools provided on sites like The Direct Marketing Association.
